The most anticipated horror movies coming in 2023
While there are many original scripts set to scare audiences throughout the upcoming year, there are five 2023 horror movies that we believe readers will be most excited to hear about. As sequels to popular horror franchises, here’s what we know about the following films, including their release dates.
Scream VI (March 10, 2023)
We hope you’ve been keeping up with the Scream franchise because a mere year after the fifth installment broke records at the box office, Paramount Pictures jumped on a sixth installment. This new film will follow the story of four survivors of the original Ghostface killings in their attempt to leave Woodsboro behind for a fresh start.
The Nun 2 (September 8, 2023)
Although a greater part of the ever-growing Conjuring Universe, this upcoming supernatural horror film is the sequel we’ve all been waiting for. The Nun 2 is picking up four years later in 1956 France, a priest is murdered, and Sister Irene is pitted against Valak once again. Are you ready for another fight between good and evil?
The Exorcist (October 13, 2023):
Only true horror aficionados know that The Exorcist franchise has six films and naturally, the upcoming seventh installment has high hopes of resurrecting it. While the title of the film is likely to change, we know that it will be a sequel to the original 1973 classic about a 12-year-old girl possessed by a demon. Now, the father of another possessed child seeks the aid of Chris MacNeil, whose daughter Regan survived a similar possession years before.
Saw X (October 27, 2023):
The Saw movie franchise has spanned nearly two decades and featured a whirlwind of psychological games to keep horror lovers entertained and wanting more. With that said, the tenth installment, Saw X, is expected to make its big screen debut a few days before Halloween. While there’s not much that we know so far about the film—except for the fact that it will be set between the first two Saw movies—it’s safe to assume that there will be gore and plenty of twists and turns.
Gremlins 3 (December 15, 2023):
Over 30 years later and the Gremlins franchise is expanding…and just in time for Christmas! While this new installment will still have cute little creatures that transform into uncontrollable monsters, it still plans to pick up where the story left off. That said, the plot may involve the death of one of the franchises most beloved characters as well!
