3 Horror Easter eggs that will change the way you see your favorite films
While most genre enthusiasts get excited about cheap horror action figures there are many that like to delve deep into the movies that inspire their collectibles, which includes hunting for spooky Easter eggs in celebration of the festive weekend to come. That being said, here are three of our favorite chilling, horror Easter eggs that you’re bound to spot next time you watch these devilish films!
IT (2017)
Horror lovers rave about the imaginative remake of Pennywise the Dancing Clown, and no matter how you slice it, he’s immensely creepy. While there are lots of qualities known about this ancient monster terrorizing the town of Derry, there’s one that fans tend to miss: Pennywise can change his eye color. While the ability to fluctuate between tones doesn’t sound creepy, it’s why he does it that will send shivers down your spine. If you think back to the opening scene, when Georgie first encounters Pennywise lurking in the storm drain, it’s hard to forget the blazing yellow eyes staring back at him. But did you notice the shift to baby blues? Pennywise shifted his color from frightening to friendly to instill more trust with Georgie and coax him closer for the kill. This scene isn’t your traditional Easter egg but it’s just as creepy!

The Conjuring 2 (2016)
Did you know that some chilling Easter eggs foreshadow the true villain in The Conjuring 2? During Lorraine Warren’s second vision, the demon nun mistakenly slips its name, and while the audience is not able to hear it, Lorraine hastily writes it down in her bible. Needless to say, there were other moments in the film where the name was mysteriously dangled in front of viewers, such as the letters on the bookcase shelf, on the wall behind Ed and Lorrain talking in the kitchen scene (twice!), and again within the beaded piece of jewelry on the table. Moving forward into the film’s third act, it turns out that the old man’s spirit was just a pawn in the demon’s game and fortunately, Lorraine can send it back to hell by speaking the name, VALEK!

Saw (2004)
While there are tons of Easter eggs in the Saw franchise, none are as exciting as this shocking one found in the first installment. Before the audience knows that John Kramer is the mastermind behind the voice of the Billy puppet, he is simply shown as a sickly man dying of cancer in a hospital bed. However, remove and “ly” to the verb we used to describe him in this previous sentence and he’s in fact, just a “sick” man who had used his downtime to plan his malevolent games, including the iconic “reverse bear trap”, which is depicted in the early drawing stages and carefully laid out in front of him in the hospital for moviegoers to see.
While the Billy puppet is a popular franchise character, we’ve also got an assortment of “Jigsaw” puzzles that might awake your inner freak.
