Pet Sematary franchise to get prequel
In an age where digital content selection has grown increasingly more popular than standard cable, Paramount Pictures has decided to jump on the trend and grow its own content library on a platform called Paramount+. However, to attract an audience that’s willing to pay for another monthly subscription, one must announce the content that will be offered exclusively on the platform. As the hook for this upcoming streaming venture, this studio has recently introduced their plans to create a new Pet Sematary film that will focus on the origin of the ‘89 cult classic. If you can’t contain your excitement, you’re not alone. In the meantime, Nightmare Toys currently has all of the best Stephen King horror figures for sale, including a few Pet Sematary inspired collectibles to keep your heart pumping until the release date.
What do we know about the prequel so far?
This anticipated installment will be produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura and written by Jeff Buhler with plans to delve deeper into the mythology of the Micmac tribe, the Wendigo, the burial ground, the children who perform the burial ceremonies, and even develop a bit more of a backstory about a favorite character, Jud Crandall.
“I think if you look at the book, we didn’t cover all that stuff that happens before the Creed family moves in. So, I think there’s a movie there, and I think I’d be particularly interested in doing that, because, again, it’s the source material and you are going toward something that also has a lot of crazy, creepy feelings about it,” said di Bonaventura.
Why would Paramount Pictures target this franchise for its first independent film?
Even though the original Pet Sematary movie was released over three decades ago, it’s still one of the most thrilling horror movies of all time, and we have Stephen King to thank! As one of the many King adaptations to further darken our horror loving’ hearts, the film’s success grossed over $57.5 million in ‘89, with a further $17.2 million for Pet Sematary 2 (1992) and $113.1 million for the remake that hit theatres in 2019. That’s $187.8 million worldwide at the box office, making this theatrical film adaptation series one of the most profitable horrors of all time. Needless to say, even with all of the thrilling scenes featuring jump-scares, guts, and gore, there are still many unanswered questions that can be woven together to create a riveting prequel! So, why wouldn’t Paramount+ want to jump on making another transforming flick?
